OVERVIEW
|
Girl
Scouts of the U.S.A. is the largest voluntary organization for girls
in the world. |
“The strength of the
Girl Scout movement rests in the voluntary leadership of its adult
members.”
- Constitution of Girl
Scouts of the U.S.A. |
|
“Every adult volunteer
and executive staff member in Girl Scouting must be selected on the
basis of qualifications for membership, ability to perform the job,
and willingness and availability to participate in training for it.”
- The Blue Book of Basic Documents,
Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., 2006. |
Girl Scouting is a membership organization. Girls join the movement in order to
take part in the Girl Scout program. Adults join to make the Girl Scout program
possible and available to girls. Each adult, regardless of the position she/he
holds - volunteer or paid staff, contributes directly or indirectly to helping
girls by supporting the mission - Girl Scouting builds girls of courage,
confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
A volunteer staff is fundamental to the delivery of the Girl Scout program and
successful accomplishment of Girl Scouting’s goals and objectives. Professional
and objective human resource management policies and practices are important for
both volunteer and paid staff.
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio's volunteer program management system
provides a structure for mobilizing human resources and establishes the
standards for planning, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of
volunteer service.
