GREAT RIVERS AREA OPPORTUNITIES

GROWING UP FEMALE - BECOMING A TEEN Ages:
The speed and variety of patterns of pubertal growth are a major source of anxiety for most adolescents.  Girls will look at:  What is normal?  What is usual?  What can I expect and when?...regarding the physical and emotional changes of puberty.  Workshops are separated into 4th grade workshops and 5th grade workshops.

Typical 4th grade workshop:  discusses emotional and physical (proper body names are used) signs of puberty for girls.  There is a very short and basic discussion on the physical signs of puberty for boys.  There is an extensive discussion of the menstrual cycle and hygiene during the menstrual cycle.

Typical 5th grade workshop:  discusses emotional and physical (proper names of body parts are used) signs of puberty for girls, as well as boys.  There is an extensive discussion of the menstrual cycle and hygiene during the menstrual cycle.

Attendance at a specific program is not dependant upon grade level; however, you and the parents of your girls should look at maturity levels of the girls when deciding on a program level.  It is encouraged for girls to bring a trusted adult female relative or mentor to the workshop.

Since there is a high demand for this program and many troops have to be placed on waiting lists it is important that you give an accurate count for your girls attending. If any girls cannot attend – you must notify the Girl Scout Center at least two weeks prior to the workshop.

Cost: $3/girl
Capacity: 25 girls/ session
