DESTINATIONS

Ages 

Interested in learning more about what Destinations are and what Destinations are available to Cadette, Senior and Senior Ambassador Girl Scouts this year? Find out where to find them and how to fill out the application and what the interview process is.

Destinations are typically held during the summer months throughout the United States and in some foreign countries and offer girls a chance to travel, learn something new, and meet Girl Scouts from around the world. GREAT RIVERS AREA OPPORTUNITIES

 

PROGRAM AIDE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Ages

As a program aide, you'll work directly with younger girls under the supervision of an adult volunteer or staff member. Being a program aide gives you the opportunity to share your expertise and knowledge of Girl Scouting with others. After you've completed both the core and specialization trainings, you'll receive the program aide pin. After you've given 25 hours of service you may purchase the program aide patch in the Council store.

Core Training
You'll take core training only once. During the training, you'll gain basic leadership skills, which will enable you to work effectively with younger girls. Your troop leader will provide core training to you within the troop setting. Troop leaders may request a kit by contacting Jessica Gutierrez. When you complete the training, you must return $3/girl, as well as the necessary paperwork to the Girl Scout Center.

Specialization Training
You must complete core training before taking specialization training. Specialization training gives you an opportunity to specialize in a particular program aide topic. You may take as many specialization trainings as you want to take.

PEACE'N IT ALL TOGETHER PEACEMAKERS

Ages

Peace’n It All Together enables older girls to provide community service by helping other Girl Scouts learn how to manage conflict. At training, girls will both participate and learn how to facilitate the Peace’n It All Together program opportunity. Girls will be able to lead the patch program for any troop or service unit. Participating in this training and becoming a facilitator is considered a Program Aide Specialization. Dates for service opportunities will be handed out at the training.

KIDS ON THE BLOCK© PUPPETEERS

Ages

Kids on the Block© enables older girl troops to provide community service by helping Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts learn about people with disabilities. At puppeteer training, troops will learn puppetry skills that will prepare them for performances that they will give during November – April. Participating in this training and becoming a puppeteer is considered a Program Aide specialization. New troops must attend both trainings.

SAFETY-TOWN PROGRAM ASSISTANTS

Ages 

Safety-Town is a community service opportunity for Cadette Girl Scouts (going into the 7th grade and older). Program Assistants teach basic pedestrian safety concepts to pre-kindergarten children at Tri-County Mall, using a miniature village as an activity backdrop. Program Assistants must attend a training session and commit to working at least one, weeklong session during June or July. Sponsored by Tri-County Mall  Springdale Police & Fire Departments.

SAFETY-VILLAGE PROGRAM ASSISTANTS

Ages  

Safety-Village is a community service opportunity for Cadette Girl Scouts (going into the 7th grade and older). BRIDGE TO ADULTS WORKSHOP - CINCINNATI

Ages

This workshop is available to graduating seniors to meet the requirements for the Bridge to Adult pin, which will be presented at the adult recognition event in May.


If the graduating senior would like to receive her pin at the annual Recognition Event and cannot attend a workshop, she needs to write a description of what she did to fulfill the six requirements and request that the pin be awarded at the annual Recognition Event. The Bridge to Adult requirements are found on pages 142-143 in the Resource Book for Senior Girl Scouts. This information must be submitted to the Girl Scout Center by March 16, 2009.


A graduating senior may also earn and receive the Bridge to Adult pin by doing the six requirements in her troop or alone and receive her bridging pin in a troop meeting or service unit meeting after taking part in a Bridging ceremony that she helped plan.

CAR SENSE WORKSHOP

Ages 

This is a must for anyone driving or getting ready to drive a car. Instruction will be an interactive, classroom, hands-on workshop on the basics of how a car works, and the how's and why's of preventative car maintenance. You will perform many basic preventative maintenance skills on actual cars in a live college lab/shop setting. Girls will work on requirements for the Car Sense Interest Project Patch.

CAMP CEO

Ages:   

Camp CEO is a career exploration and leadership program where 10th-12th grade girls who “dream big” will interact with executive women in a non-traditional setting. Girls will hang out and participate in both indoor and outdoor activities with local women business leaders at Camp Libbey in April 2009. Learn what it’s really like to be an executive and, it will also look great on a college application! Girls will go through an application, interview and selection process for this program opportunity.  Applications are due in January, interviews are held in February and selections are made by March.

PERSONALIZED POTTERY

Ages:

Fire, water, earth and space - according to an ancient Indian medical theory each person falls into one of these three categories based on the mind body connection.  Just for creative fun, we will explore the different body types and use that information in describing ourselves either through slab, coil or pinch pot techniques.  Be prepared to get messy during the project and leave 4-6 weeks for the return of your project.

COOKIE BOX CREATIONS

Ages:

Girls will work as a troop or group to design and construct a structure made out of empty Girl Scout cookie boxes.  When completed, the structures will be displayed for an evaluation by professional volunteer judges.  These structures are amazing eye catchers for a cookie booth.

Learn about relationship dynamics, the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors and how to decide what you want out of a relationship. CADETTE/SENIOR/AMBASSADORS ASSOCIATION (CSA)

The Cadette/Senior/ Ambassadors is all about YOU and the things you love - challenge, service and adventure! It's a place where you can be yourself and become your best; meet new people and hang out with friends who care about you; explore your beliefs, express yourself and voice your opinions; take action on what's important to you through community service projects. It's also a place where you can make a difference - you'll help plan awesome events that are just for older girls! All girls ages 11-17 are welcome! Every third Sunday, September - May.
Cost: No Cost
Time: 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

BRIDGING TO ADULTS

This workshop is available to graduating seniors to meet the requirements for the Bridge to Adult pin which will be presented at the volunteer recognition event in April.
