Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

THE FASH BASH

Create your own one-of-a-kind accessories, recycle an old shirt, and learn about the history of fashion.  Program will fulfill the requirements for Art to Wear badge.  Dress for messy projects and crafts.  Bring an old t-shirt to re-design.

FOLK ARTS

Using Scrap4Art's supply of reclaimed materials, we will discuss traditional art forms of everyday people, as well as less traditional art forms incorporating materials that appear to be trash or discards to others.  We'll look at examples of family portraits and create our own portraits using Scrap4Art's inventory of reclaimed materials.  Learn a traditional art form, and create a new and original art form using less traditional techniques or materials.

MAKE 'EM, DON'T BREAK 'EM TOYMAKER WORKSHOP

Learn about the history and design of toys and games, and make toys of your own creation using materials reclaimed from commercial and industrial sources in the Toledo area.  This program completes the requirements for a Toymaker badge.  Dress for messy projects and crafts.

Can you really build a house of straw?  Can wind power a city?  Do Californians really generate energy from dog poop?  Learn about buildings of the future, neighborhood planning and basic principles of sustainable architecture and design as you fulfill the requirements for a Building Art try-it.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Scrap4Art, a Toledo non-profit group that collects scrap materials from commercial and industrial sources to be used by teachers and artists.  Using materials reclaimed from Toledo area businesses, create your own one-of-a-kind valentines and Valentine's Day decorations.

GIRL SCOUTS ARE OIL RIGHT WITH US

Learn about the formation of oil, create a simulated beach to study the effects of an oil spill on the environment, and experiment with different techniques to clean up the spill.  Make your own works of art using Scrap4Art's supplies of materials reclaimed from Toledo area businesses as you learn more about the many uses of oil in our everyday lives.

Celebrate nature and the environment with Scrap4Art, a Toledo non-profit group that collects scrap materials from commercial and industrial sources to be used by teachers and artists. Make earth-friendly cleaning products, build a mini world, and create a low-tech solution to energy loss, as you learn about the importance of conservation of energy and natural resources. This program completes the requirements for the Earth Is Our Home try-it. Dress for messy projects.

Celebrate Earth Day with Scrap4Art, a Toledo non-profit organization that collects scrap materials from commercial and industrial sources to be used by teachers and artists.
