Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

Policies: These policies apply to all museum center program opportunities.

  • Payment in full is required at the time you register.

  • Individuals may register, but an adult must accompany the child.

  • If you must cancel, there is no charge up to two weeks before the program date.  Within two weeks, there is a flat $25 cancellation fee per troop.

  • We reserve the right to cancel any date that is not filled to the minimum.

  • We will close each date as it reaches its maximum or at two weeks prior.


"People of the World" Try-it

Girl Scouts learn about children from a variety of countries by visiting the Children Just Like Me exhibit in the Cinergy Children’s Museum.  They also learn phrases in a different language as well as songs and crafts from different countries.  The program ends with the presentation of the badge provided by Cincinnati Museum Center and access to the Cinergy Children’s Museum all day.  These programs are held the same weekends as our Culture Fests to provide additional diversity.  The Culture Fests include storytelling, dancing, native garb, jewelry, and performances free in the Rotunda.  Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 4, 5, 6.

Crystal Clear Science Days

Brownies have the unique opportunity to work towards three badges in one day!  Crystal Clear Science will provide interactive, experiment based programs covering the Science Wonders, Water Everywhere, and Sounds of Music Try-it activities.  The day includes three 45 minute programs and access to both the Museum of Natural History & Science and the Cinergy Children’s Museum.

Listening to the Past

This program will introduce history to Brownies in an interactive way.  The program begins in the Cincinnati History Museum where the girls can explore our 1800’s replica of the Cincinnati public landing.  Your troop will get an opportunity to journey back in time and play children’s games from the past.  The program continues with a look at Cincinnati in Motion.  At this exhibit girls can get a bird’s eye view of Cincinnati throughout time.  The program concludes with a private tour of union Terminal where your troop will discover the importance of the building to Cincinnati history.  All participants will receive a Listening to the past Try-it.  This program fulfills requirements #2, 4, 5, 6.

Science in Action

Girls will go on a science and technology hunt in our Museum of Natural History and Science, make weird glop, learn about magnetic attraction, and conduct fun science experiments! The program ends with the presentation of the badge provided by the Cincinnati Museum Center. Participants and adults will have access to the Museum of Natural History and Science all day. This program fulfills requirements #1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.

Rocks Rock Badge Program Opportunity

This program is on geology.  A self-guided tour of the Museum of Natural History and Science exploring our fossils, minerals, glaciers and dinosaurs.  (Your packet includes a leader’s guide of what to discuss with your troop and what to point out to them as you go through the museum.)  The girls will have a private demonstration in our Nature’s Trading Post discussing hardness scale, local fossils, and types of rocks.  The program also includes a demonstration at our stream table and discussion by staff member about the effects glaciers have on the landscape.  Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 3, 5, 8.

Architecture Badge

Union Terminal is a perfect place to hold this program.  Girls will discuss styles of architecture in the Cincinnati area and around the world.  Girls will put together a scrapbook of architectural styles they can take home with them.  They will then have a private Rotunda Tour guided by a volunteer of the Cincinnati Heritage Program.  Once back in the classroom, girls will work together to design and build a structure as quickly as possible with limited resources.  All participants will receive an Architecture badge.  The troop will have access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day.  Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 10.

Local Lore Badge

The program consists of a visit to the Cincinnati History Museum, a short discussion on local legends and lore, and an activity utilizing historic maps of our city.  The program focuses on the changes of our city, good and bad, and how they have affected the people living here.  Girls are required to complete an activity of the badge on their own prior to the program.  At the conclusion, there will be a badge ceremony.  The program also includes a snack and access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day.  Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 4, 7, 10.

Theatre Badge

Help your troop dive into the world of theatre.  Girls will discover basics of performing for an audience.  They will learn how to:  project their voice clearly, apply stage make-up that will fool anyone, learn to think quickly on their feet during improve, and much more!  All participants will receive a Theatre Badge provided by Cincinnati Museum Center.  Also the troop will have access to the Cinergy Children’s Museum all day.  This program fulfills requirements #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9

Folk Arts Badge

This program consists of a visit to the Cincinnati History Museum and a visit from a storyteller. Girls will also learn a folk dance, folk song, and make a special craft they can take home with them. All participants will receive a Folk Art Badge provided by the Cincinnati Museum Center. Participants and adults will have access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day. Program fulfills requirements $1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10.

Cincinnati Museum Center Cave Overnight

Groups will explore the weird world of the cave ecosystem.  You will visit the largest man made limestone cave in the world, spend time with some of our animal friends, try cave art, and learn about caving basics and more.  The event ends with a private showing of the Omnimax film Journey Into Amazing Caves.  This exciting and educational event is a great value.
