Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Magic Forest Halloween Hikes

Girls will walk through a pumpkin-lit trail meeting costumed characters from nature and history.  This is a non-scary holiday walk best suited to girls ages 5-10.

Dates:

October 25, 2008

Location:

Caldwell Nature Center

430 North Bend Rd., Cincinnati

Times:

Hikes start 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and leave at 15 min. intervals.  Each hike lasts 1 hour.

Maple in Mt. Airy

Girls enjoy a pancake breakfast, and then have a hayride to the program. They interact with costumed sugar makers from the past, and taste maple sap, sugar and syrup. Girls learn how trees produce sugars, and how people have tapped into this source over the centuries. Program includes pancake breakfast and outdoor program.

NATURE PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES

Weekdays during after-school hours, you troop can schedule a program at one of our nature centers listed below or at any City of Cincinnati park location.  Programs can be scheduled for up to two-hours in length depending on arrival time.  At least $5 per girl and chaperone unless otherwise stated, leaders and their assistants are free, with extra fees for craft supplies if needed.  Requirements for many nature-oriented Brownie Try-its, Junior Badges and Cadette/Senior Interest Projects can be fulfilled.  Centers also have opportunities for community service projects for troops of all ages and can work with Gold Award candidates on projects.

Caldwell Nature Center
