Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

Registration:  No registrations will be accepted before September 1, 2008. Requests are filled in the order received by mail. We allow free chaperones according to Safety-Wise guidelines. 2 leaders are free for a troop of up to 12 Brownies. An additional free adult is allowed for every 6 additional Brownies. Juniors may have 2 free leaders for 16 girls and an additional adult for every 8 additional Juniors. Other adults are required to pay. All adults are expected to participate.

Outdoor Inspiration Overnight

Girls will sample different ways to enjoy the natural world.  They will use their creativity to express the beauty they see, hear, smell and feel.  Activities will include hiking, and bird watching, interspersed with time for reflection, poetry writing, drawing and painting.  The overnight will feature a night hike and a campfire with songs and stories.  Girls will earn "Your Outdoor Surroundings" and "Outdoor Creativity" badges. Badges are NOT provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Water and Weather Overnight

Girls will learn to value the natural world by exploring the functions of water on Earth, including its role in weather. Girls will look for aquatic life in local streams, and see how water and weather shape the landscape. Girls will learn about weather through games and experiments, learn to read weather maps, and build a weather instrument. Girls will earn the “Water Wonders” and “Weather Watch” badges. Badges are NOT provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Earth and Space Overnight (2nd & 3rd grade)

Girls will learn to value planet Earth as they “travel” to other planets. They will learn about the moon and stars through crafts, games, and a night hike. They will explore planet Earth through conducting numerous science experiments, and meet some of the life on the nature preserve. Girls will earn 3 Try-Its: Space Explorer, Earth and Sky, and Science Wonders. Badges are NOT provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Moving and Sensing with Science Overnight (2nd & 3rd grade)

Girls will discover how air makes different things move, how science is all around us, and the many ways we use our senses. Join in on the fun as we will be making such things as rockets and weird glop! Girls will earn 3 try-its: "Senses", "movers", and "Science in Action". Badges are NOT provided.  Troops must bring their own food.

Plants, Animals and Camping Fun Overnight (2nd & 3rd grade)

Girls will learn some camping basics along with learning about the importance of plants and animals in nature. Each girl will set up a variety of growing experiments to watch at home.  Learn about the many unique characteristics different animals have. Learn some useful skills for camping such as knots and learning to pack up a sleeping bag. Girls will earn 3 Try-its (after completion of their plant experiments): Plants, Animals, and Ready, Set, Go Camping. Badges are not provided. Troops must bring their own food.

Outdoor Explorer Overnight (2nd & 3rd grade)

Girls will learn to value and protect the natural world through daytime and night hikes, games, crafts, and other hands-on activities. They will meet some local animals and learn how to enjoy the outdoors safely and comfortably. The overnight will feature a campfire with songs and stories. Girls will earn three Try-Its: Eco-Explorer, Outdoor Adventure, and Watching Wildlife. Badges are not provided. Troops must bring their own food.

Finding Your Way Badge

Find out where you need to go!  Girls will learn how to read and use maps and use a compass in this active program.  Much of the program is outdoors.  Girls should bring bag lunches.  Girls will earn their Finding Your Way badge.  Badges are NOT provided.

Night Hike

Discover what goes bump in the night!  We will find out about some of the nocturnal animals that live in the forest.  WE will then go on a hike and experience light deprivation activities.  Find out what a "sparky party" is and much more!

Science in Action Try-it 

Delve into the world of science as we do different experiments and activities. We will make some very cool glop learn about colors and other neat things. After completion of these activities, girls will earn their Science in Action Try-It. Patches are not provided.

Rocks Rock Badge

Join us for a jam packed program as we learn about what holds the world up...rocks!  We will make a rock collection; learn about the different types of rocks and much, much more.  Dress for the weather.  Part of the program will be outside.  After completion of the activities, girls will earn their Rocks Rock badge.  Badges NOT provided.

Science Discovery Badge

Science is the focus for this program as we learn about many cool and fascinating branches of science!  We will conduct a stream assessment; perform experiments and much, much more.  Dress for the weather and have close-toes shoes for the creek.  Part of the program will be outside.  After completion of the activities, girls will earn their Science Discovery badge. Badges are not provided.

Water Everywhere Try-it

Find out the very things that make Earth special! Water! We will discover why water is important for life on Earth. Part of our activities will include a creek walk. Sturdy boots or sneakers are a must! After completion of the activities, girls will earn their Water Everywhere Try-it. Patches are not provided.
