Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

Family First Saturdays

Explore a different theme each month through scavenger hunts, hands-on art activities, visits with local artists, performances, and more, designed for kids ages 6 to 12 accompanied by an adult. The first Saturday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m., September through May.  All Family First Saturdays are free.

 


Registration:  Registration is not required.  However, space is limited because all activities are open to the public.  Please arrive early to ensure availability.


2008-2009 Schedule

September 6, 2008 - Art in Action (September coincides with a special exhibition of work from author/illustrator David Macaulay.)

October 2, 2008 - Puzzling Portraits (October focuses on portraits from the permanent collection.)

November 1, 2008 - Daring Designs (November focuses on design in the arts and coincides with the special exhibition China Design Now.)

December 6 + 7, 2008 - Alice in Artland (Our 6th annual Holiday Xtravaganza featuring artworks, a museum model, multiple visiting artists and performances, plenty of hands-on activities, and more.)

January 3, 2009 - Going Global (January focuses on different cultures and regions represented in the permanent collection)

February 7, 2009 - Sew into Art (February focuses on fashion in the permanent collection.)

March 7, 2009 - Isn't it great to be an artist? (March coincides with a special exhibition about Insider/Outsider art called Isn't it great to be an artist?)

April 4, 2009 - Art That Fools You (April will focus on a special exhibition from the Surrealism movement in art.)

May 2, 2009 - Sketch It Out (May will focus on a variety of drawings and paintings in the permanent collection.)
