Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

RETURN TO THE MOON MISSION

Return to the Moon Mission: In this three hour space mission simulation, the girls take on the role of mission controllers and NASA astronauts who have been selected to Return to the Moon. The year is 2040 and the goal is to land on the moon. During the mission experience, the crew is divided into eight teams each having a specific responsibility for the success of the mission. All must work together to monitor the space travel, find and solve emergency situations, and successfully reach the goal! Our Challenger Learning Center is one of a network of over 50 centers established by the family of the crew of the Challenger Space Shuttle Mission 51-L as a living memorial to their loved ones. The state of the art simulator provides the background for the experience, but the girls provide the awesome power to successfully accomplish the mission. See if your troop has the right stuff to make it to the Moon! The mission experience has been designed to allow the girls to work toward the completion of the aerospace badge. A pre mission training for the troop leader(s) is available (optional) for an additional fee.

MINI DISCOVERY MISSION

The Mini Discovery Mission is a space simulation especially designed for younger space travelers. The girls take on the role of scientists, mathematicians, and engineers and are in control as they work in our spacecraft simulator to gather data for NASA. During the ground school portion of the mission experience the girls will work on the Space Explorer Try It requirements. In each portion of the program, ground school and the mission, the mission can be accomplished only if the crew works as a team!
