Community-sponsored opportunities offer troops/individuals activities that support the Girl Scout program goals.  These community groups have chosen to be listed in our resources and on our website and are familiar with our program goals, as well as Safety-Wise requirements.

Inclusion in the Volunteer Resource Disc is not an endorsement of these agencies.  Troop leaders should research the event/activity prior to registering for an event/activity to ensure that the event meets the needs and interests of their girls and all safety regulations are being met.

COLORS AND SHAPES TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Learn about the world of art through four Colors and Shapes Try-It activities. Make your own stencil stamps to create greeting cards or wrapping paper. Make mobiles into works of art that can tell a story. Other fun activities will include making your own dough and weaving colorful paper mats. Create colorful artwork while completing four try-it activities and earn your Colors and Shapes Try-It. Price of try-it is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

ART IN 3D BADGE WORKSHOP

Discuss famous artists and their 3-D works of art and what made their artwork outstanding. Work together with other girls to create a group sculpture and afterwards use modeling clay to design your own sculpture through molding and carving clay. Finish up by making an origami sculpture or create a colorful mobile. Complete six activities and earn the Art in 3-D Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

DRAWING AND PAINTING BADGE WORKSHOP

Focus on acrylic paint while earning your Drawing and Painting badge. Learn the basics color mixing and abstract design. Get creative experimental techniques instead of paint brushes! Work on real canvas, like the famous artists and make plenty of your own Masterpieces! Complete six activities and earn the Drawing and Painting Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

PRINTS AND GRAPHICS BADGE WORKSHOP

Get ready; get set…rub, stamp, and stencil! Make handmade note cards, stationary and wrapping paper. Learn how to make strong graphic designs using line, shape, and positive/negative space. Pick your favorite design to finish for display at home. Complete six activities and earn the Prints and Graphics Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

PUPPETS, DOLLS, AND PLAYS TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Experience an explosion of puppets while completing four Puppets, Dolls, and Plays Try-It activities. Embark on a puppet making journey and make your own finger puppets, yarn dolls, paper bag puppets, and mock marionettes! A mini-puppet show will be held at the end of the class and then the puppets get to go home with you for more fun! Dress for creativity (paint clothes)! Please bring an old sock, mitten or knit glove. Price of try-it is included in the price of the workshop.

ART TO WEAR TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Create your own funky or fancy T-shirt using lots of creativity and a little elbow grease! Sketch a design for a unique shirt and then transfer your ideas to a T-shirt. Paints, fabric markers, will be used in the birth of your shirt. You’ll get a chance to paint each others faces, make masks, and even bracelets to complete your Try-It requirements. Bring your camera and pose together for an outrageous troop portrait. Please bring your own white T-Shirt and leave with a work of art! Price of try-it is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

ART IN THE HOME BADGE WORKSHOP

My Dream Room. Explore the basics of interior design! Learn about different styles of furniture, wall coverings, and color schemer, then design your own “Dream Room” and then make a mockette (model) of your design. Use your creativity to create a wall hanging that can be used in your room at home. Please bring an old shoe box for the “Dream Room” model. Complete six activities and earn the Art in the Home Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

ARCHITECTURE BADGE WORKSHOP

Have fun while learning about famous architects and their styles. Think about types of buildings you might want to design if you were an architect! Design a model of an outdoor garden, sculpture or theme garden using found objects, like fabric, paper or moss. Complete six activities and earn the Architecture Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

BUILDING ARTS TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Imagine our world 100 years from now, and sketch a picture of what a building might look like in the future. Work on a group project to create a perfect neighborhood map. Make a building out of paper or design a perfect meeting place for you and your friends. Use your imagination and work through four Building Art Try-It activities with help from troop leaders to assist the girls in beginning to see the world through different eyes. CREATIVE COMPOSTING TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Put on your thinking hats because we are going to making lots of creative things, while completing the requirements for this Try-It! Creative writing will be explored as girls compose a unique poem. We’ll break out the paints and create an amazing painting! Girls will work in teams and make their own songs and a mini plays, which will then be performed for everyone. Get a taste of many different art forms such as painting, writing, and acting, while building a sense of pride for your own artistic talents and the ability to work with others to create wonderful performance art! Bring your cameras to capture memories of your performances! Price of try-it is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

NUMBERS AND SHAPES TRY-IT WORKSHOP

Start the class with a lesson in problem solving using the Chinese tangram to create a number of different pictures. Make a cat or other cool creatures using Origami the Japanese art of folding paper. Make some “paper magic” with German paper Mobius strips, or make a jigsaw puzzle. Use logic and creativity to complete four try-it activities and earn your Numbers and Shapes Try-It. Price of try-it is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)!

Get moving with these unique and fun art projects that utilize nature’s best form of locomotion ~ wind! Together we will create a world of movement with individual creativity and a little elbow grease. VISUAL ARTS BADGE WORKSHOP

While focusing on painting, girls will learn how all art has rules and follows patterns, and that understanding these things will help them appreciate art and improve their own artwork. We will explore painting through several different projects, such as a color wheel, a painting showing emotion and movement, black and white designs, and more! Great for those with little experience and those who are serious about art! Come have fun and leave the mess behind! Complete six activities and earn the Visual Arts Badge! TOYMAKER BADGE WORKSHOP

Not only are toys fun to play with, but fun to learn about! Spend an afternoon making toys, such as a stuffed animal or spinning top. Learn about toys from different countries and then make something you’ve learned about. Get creative and make a mini doll house out of an old shoe box, or make a toy out of junk! One girl’s trash can become another girl’s toy! Complete six activities and earn the Toymaker Badge! Price of the badge is included in the price of the workshop. Dress for creativity (paint clothes)! Each girl should bring an old shoe box and a gently used toy to donate to a charity.
